Aldi Quarter Saver Key Chain

If you frequent Aldi’s grocery store I’m sure you’ve had moments where you dig through your car change, or your purse looking for a quarter for the cart. I know I have! The quarter saver key chain makes it so you’ll always have one handy.

I decided to make up this pattern when I tried other patterns and just didn’t care for how the quarter was half sticking out. I knew I was bound to loose the quarter and be exactly where I was before making it so I designed this enclosed version, where it opens in middle.

Materials Needed:

2 Skeins of Embroidery Thread

Metal Key Ring

2.75 Crochet Hook

Scissors

Needle to sew in ends (Larger holed sewing Needle works fine although if you have old eyes like me you may need a needle threader.)

Stitches to know:

Ch – Chain

SC – Single Crochet

Slst – Slip Stitch

Materials Needed

We will be working this pattern up by using two strands of embroidery thread together – I found it easier to just pull the paper sleeves off the embroidery thread and roll them into a ball together.

Chain 6 +1(turning Chain)

Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook (working in the back loop - this will give you a nice clean edge) – and each stitch across (6 sts) – Ch 1 - Turn

Row 2 – 14: SC across(6sts) – Ch 1 –Turn

Slip stitch down the long side of your rectangle (3 slip sts) – This will place you in position to SC down the side

Fold both ends of your rectangle to meet in the middle.

SC down the side being sure to grab both front and back panel (3sts should bring you to the middle where front panels meet)

When you reach the middle and the two edges meet, Place hook through stitches on the right side panel, and grab stitches of the left hand side panel, then place hook through the back panel- Form SC pulling yarn through all three panels to secure this section.

Continue SC across to corner(3 sts) – Ch 1 in corner & SC across bottom

Ch 1 in corner – Sc across side in same method you did the other side (3sc grabbing both front and back, SC right and left panel to back panel (Sc over your beginning tail to secure that down – one less tail to weave in) – 3 more SC to next corner

Ch 1 at corner and do 1 slst on top edge

SC 4 – Ch 1 turn (5 times)

Add your keyring

Fold your flap over key ring, push working yarn around to back side –

Place hook through sc stitch hole where flap meets - Pull yarn through from back and form slst. Do this across securing flap and key ring in place.

Make one last Slst to corner – cut and tie off.

Using your needle – Sew your ends in down the back side, go left, right, and left again. (this ensures it won’t come undone.)

Yay your all done!! =D
